About the event
Iain Abernethy – UK’s Leading Expert on Practical Kata Bunkai
Iain Abernethy is one of the UK's leading exponents of applied karate and kata application (bunkai). His martial arts DVDs and books have sold worldwide and have been translated into other languages. Iain holds a 7th Dan with both the British Combat Association (one of the world's leading groups for close-quarter combat, self-protection and practical martial arts) and 6th dan with the British Karate Association.
Iain is in great demand on the seminar circuit and he teaches many seminars on his approach to practical karate both here in the UK and overseas. The bunkai that Iain teaches are not prearranged karateka vs. karateka applications; nor are they static, complex, elaborate or reliant upon finite movement. Iain's approach to karate makes kata application practical, simple, direct and accessible to all.
During this seminar Iain will explain the principles that he uses to interpret karate kata to develop practical and effective bunkai. He will explore examples of practical bunkai taken from classic Karate kata and will discuss and demonstrate the training techniques and strategies that he uses to develop students skills in the application and use of these bunkai.
The course is open to all styles and associations and costs £35 per adult and £25 per child. Bookings made before 19th December 2022 can get a £5 discount off the course fee with discount code Early Bird. To reserve your spot please go to our online registration page.
