Since folk seemed to enjoy the last one, we've decided to host a New Year Gashuku. For those new to it, a Gashulu is a day long intensive training camp at Hoole dojo, spent with like-minded karateka, to hone and sharpen your martial arts skills
Time & Location
28 Jan 2024, 09:00 – 16:00
Chester, The Old Chapel, Housesteads Dr, Chester CH2 3DL, UK
About the event
The 'Gashuku' or 'Gasshuku' traditionally were for Samurai warriors. They allowed time for the Samurai to train together, away from the formalities of Court to hone their fighting skills and to help build and maintain their bond or brotherhood through hard training and socialising together. In the spirit of the Seven Samurai, "one suffers, all suffer".
Usually held over several days, we'll give you a taste of a traditional Gashuku with our mini-training camp held over one day! 6 hours of training from 9am to 4.30pm. There will be three blocks of training:
9am to 11am kihon (basics) practise
11.30am to 1.30pm kata practise
2.30pm-4.30pm kumite practise
Bring food and refreshments for the day and sparring gear for the kumite session.
The fee for the training camp is £10pp
Feel free to come for one or all training blocks and the event is open to all grades and all styles.
